All Data Are Local

by Yanni Alexander Loukissas, All Data Are Local Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download All Data Are Local books, How to analyze data settings rather than data sets, acknowledging the meaning-making power of the local. In our data-driven society, it is too easy to assume the transparency of data. Instead, Yanni Loukissas argues in All Data Are Local, we should approach data sets with an awareness that data are created by humans and their dutiful machines, at a time, in a place, with the instruments at hand, for audiences that are conditioned to receive them. The term data set implies something discrete, complete, and portable, but it is none of those things. Examining a series of data sources important for understanding the state of public life in the United States—Harvard's Arnold Arboretum, the Digital Public Library of America, UCLA's Television News Archive, and the real estate marketplace Zillow—Loukissas shows us how to analyze data settings rather than data sets. Loukissas sets out six principles: all data are local; data have complex attachments to place; data are collected from heterogeneous sources; data and algorithms are inextricably entangled; interfaces recontextualize data; and data are indexes to local knowledge. He then provides a set of practical guidelines to follow. To make his argument, Loukissas employs a combination of qualitative research on data cultures and exploratory data visualizations. Rebutting the “myth of digital universalism,” Loukissas reminds us of the meaning-making power of the local.

Digital Stractics

by Chris Outram, Digital Stractics Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Digital Stractics books, In the world of digital business, the line between strategy and tactics is blurring. Traditionally large companies would adopt strategic frameworks which planned over three- to five-year timescales, while most digital start-ups had little interest in comprehensive and rigorous strategic processes and simply set themselves vision and worked out how to get there along the way. In today's digital economy even large companies are finding that their planning horizons are being measured in months rather than years or quarters (if not yet in the weeks or even days of startups). On the other hand, investors are less swayed by the excitement of 'digital' and expect harder and more rigorous medium term planning from start-ups. As a result, while the empirical process of learning by doing is becoming part of traditional companies' strategy processes, digital pure plays are no longer just making it up as they go along, but actively learning and changing as they go along. In short: on the battlefield of online commerce, strategy blends with tactics. Indeed, the distinction between pure play and hybrid is increasingly redundant as more holistic business models begin to emerge. Digital Stractics captures the experience and insights of some 60 entrepreneurs, CEOs and chairmen of both pure plays and hybrids to formulate frameworks within which both pure plays and hybrids can shape their strategy and business models. As timescales between 'plan' and 'do' collapse strategy and tactics have to blend. The world of STRACTICS is upon us.

Download Show And Sell Selling Your Home Today A Cautionary Tale books, A hilarious step-by-step guide to saving thousands of dollars marketing and selling your home the smart way with standard FSBO or flat-fee MLS. Like so many other things in our world today, the traditional ways of selling real estate have been disrupted and displaced by technology, Traditional 'For Sale by Owner' (FSBO) has changed quite a bit from the days when you put the ubiquitous red and white sign out front. The Multiple Listing Service (MLS) that Realtors depend on hasn't changed much over the years, but technology has enabled new approaches that benefit home sellers and buyers. The choice between FSBO and using listing/selling real estate brokers in the traditional way is no longer black or white. New middle-ground options make it easier for homeowners to find exactly the right process for themselves. Visionary realty companies now offer flat-fee MLS inclusion, which eliminates expensive commissions and helps to expedite the process, put the power back into the hands of buyers and sellers, and save both parties money. This book examines those choices, and walks you through the selling process from start to finish using the recent, real-life experiences of the author, from early decisions to closing. It, explores the opportunities that are available to buyers and sellers today, and explains how to use the technology that is not only imperative, but comfortable to tech-savvy baby boomers, gen-Xers, and millennials. It is indeed a 'Cautionary Tale' due to the many pitfalls and bizarre events that occurred along the way. In conclusion, the author poses the question—is it wise to buy a home at all anymore?

Retail Disruptors

by Jan-Benedict Steenkamp, Retail Disruptors Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Retail Disruptors books, Hard discounters are stores that sell a limited selection of consumer packaged goods and perishables - typically fewer than 2,000 Stock Keeping Units - for prices that are usually 50-60% lower than national brands. The best known hard discounters are Aldi and Lidl, but global brands include Trader Joe's, EuroSpin, Biedronka, Netto and Leader Price. Their rise has been monumental; they have irrevocably changed the face of retail in Europe and Australia, and are making steady inroads into the US. Retail Disruptors explores the very real threat that hard discounters pose to traditional retailers and brand manufacturers. Retail Disruptors is the first book that explores this upheaval, providing expert insight into the business models of the leading hard discounters, and what mainstream retailers and brand manufacturers can do to remain competitive in the face of disruption. Meticulously researched by two of the leading authorities in retail strategy, private labels, branding, and hard discounting, Retail Disruptors is essential reading for all brand manufacturers and retailers who want to retain the competitive edge.
