The Balkans In The Cold War

by Svetozar Rajak, The Balkans In The Cold War Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Balkans In The Cold War books, Positioned on the fault line between two competing Cold War ideological and military alliances, and entangled in ethnic, cultural and religious diversity, the Balkan region offers a particularly interesting case for the study of the global Cold War system. This book explores the origins, unfolding and impact of the Cold War on the Balkans on the one hand, and the importance of regional realities and pressures on the other. Fifteen contributors from history, international relations, and political science address a series of complex issues rarely covered in one volume, namely the Balkans and the creation of the Cold War order; Military alliances and the Balkans; uneasy relations with the Superpowers; Balkan dilemmas in the 1970s and 1980s and the ‘significant other’ – the EEC; and identity, culture and ideology. The book’s particular contribution to the scholarship of the Cold War is that it draws on extensive multi-archival research of both regional and American, ex-Soviet and Western European archives.

The Balkan Wars 1912 1913

by Richard C. Hall, The Balkan Wars 1912 1913 Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Balkan Wars 1912 1913 books, In The Balkan Wars 1912-1913, Richard Hall examines the origins, the enactment and the resolution of the Balkan Wars, during which the Ottoman Empire fought a Balkan coalition of Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro and Serbia. The Balkan Wars of 1912 - 1913 opened an era of conflict in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, which lasted until 1918, and which established a basis for problems which tormented Europe until the end of the century. Based on archival as well as published diplomatic and military sources, this book provides the first comprehensive perspective on the diplomatic and military aspects of the Balkan Wars. It demonstrates that, because of the diplomatic problems raised and the military strategies and tactics pursued to resolve those problems, The Balkan Wars of 1912-1913 were the first phase of the greater and wider conflict of the First World War.

Prelude To The First World War

by E. R. HOOTON, Prelude To The First World War Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Prelude To The First World War books, The fuse to the First World War was lit in the Balkans where simmering hatreds exploded into violence. Like a string of firecrackers, these hatreds had been fuelled by attacks on the Turkish Ottoman Empire in the previous few years. From 1911-1912, Italy seized Libya. In 1912, the Balkan states united to drive Turkey out of Europe in the First Balkans War, and in the following year in the Second Balkans War, turned on each other in a division of the spoils which allowed Turkey to retain a foothold in Europe. This was a war of land campaigns, sea battles and amphibious operations in which the new military technology was first used. Submarine and aircraft attacked ships, aircraft made reconnaissance flights and bombed troops while even electronic warfare was used. It also saw mirror images of the events in the First World War; Bulgarians driven from Salonika where an Allied army would later be contained and Turkish troops held back in the Dardanelles, their guns driving off a naval task force. These now forgotten wars were the overture to the First World War and yet they have overtones a century later. The First World War saw echoes of these campaigns in Salonika and especially in the Dardanelles, while the ethnic tensions would erupt into further bloodshed after the Cold War ended as Yugoslavia collapsed during the 1990s.

Download The Kosovo Crisis books, Kosovo saw the last European war of the twentieth century, the first fought by a NATO force, and possibly the end of America's direct involvement in European military affairs. This book explains how Kosovo came to be 'the crucible of a poisonous ethnic struggle' and examines the implications of the international response.*A unique presentation of the events by nine specialist writers makes this the only book of such scope and international dimension available on the Kosovo crisis. *Sets out the causes, chronicles the events and evaluates the motivation of the major participants in the conflict in a manner unattempted since the hostilities ended. *Multi-disciplinary in nature, the book establishes a link between politics and media. *Presents a close examination of the respective international responses and provides provocative, original and informed conclusions. *Includes analysis of German and Italian positions in NATO allowing students to examine the lesser known policies of these countries. *Presents a coherent post-Cold War interpretation of events of great importance to Europe, NATO and the USA. *Presents a view which underlines the need for a new foreign policy for the EU, par
