Perrin deVesey knows pain. As a member of Crimson Rose, a secret club for men who love men, he’s taken the vow “to stand and shield.” Standing together during these perilous times is the only thing keeping their necks from the guillotine. Now their leader is using the club to rescue wrongly accused traitors. After losing a past lover to an unjust execution, the decision to support this treasonous cause is easy...until a devastatingly handsome Committee Officer complicates Perrin’s whole world. Officer Henri Chevalier hates aristocrats. But the man he finds while investigating Crimson Rose is more than just wealthy and fancily clothed. He’s a rogue that could take him to the heart of the uprising and stop it before it starts. His plan to get close to Perrin and steal his secrets backfires, though, when Henri finds himself falling for the damned aristo and his dangerous smile. His heart is even more conflicted as he learns the truth behind their cause...and the truth his own people have been hiding. Together they must make the choice—to stand and shield at any cost—and their love might be the deadliest weapon in all of France.

Concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme, North Korea’s nuclear brinkmanship and, in the past, Iraq’s apparent pursuit of WMD have captured the world’s attention, and dominated the agenda of the American foreign policy establishment. But, what led policymakers and the US military to emphasise the threat of rogue states at the end of the Cold War? Going behind the vivid language of the ‘axis of evil’ and portrayals of undeterrable and reckless rogue states, this work demonstrates how the rogue state doctrine satisfied both domestic and international goals in the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations, underpinning efforts to maintain US leadership and hegemony. It offers a clear picture of the policymaking process, taking a broad, historical approach that places the actions of US officials towards Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Libya and Cuba in a wider context. Through an understanding of the long-standing influences on the US approach we are better able to appreciate why, for instance, regime change dominated the post-9/11 agenda and led to the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. Explaining in detail how the tackling of rogue states became a central aim of US foreign policy, Miles examines whether there was continuity between the Clinton and Bush approach. He moves on to highlight the influence of Congress on the implementation of US policies and the difficulties the US faced in ‘selling’ its approach to allies and adapting its hard-line strategies to reflect developments within the targeted states. By considering the impulses and drivers behind the development of the rogue states approach, this work will extend the scope of existing work in the field and will be of interest to scholars and policymakers alike.

Love-’em-and-leave-’em bad-boy Rolf has met his match, and she’s nothing like his usual dalliance. Older, plus-sized Fantine is a woman who embraces her curves and revels in her femininity. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. A weekend of pleasure that begins as a torrid distraction to both, sparks a deeper need that neither was looking for, a connection neither one is able to let go of. Fantine also brings Rolf a gift beyond measure, the answer to his inchoate dream—a link to the dark-eyed, dark-haired father he always suspected was his, not the blond-haired, blue-eyed sire of his brothers. Amid the joy of learning of his new family and a tempestuous relationship burgeoning with unrestrained carnality and newfound emotions, Rolf and Fantine become targets for someone who will stop at nothing to keep that family’s wealth out of their hands. A new side to Rolf emerges—the man he never thought he could be, and the lover of Fantine’s deepest fantasies.

Torn between family and duty, Sanjay is home in Farashtar at the behest of his father. He resents deferring his career as a knight to obey royal obligation, but he’s powerless to escape his father’s influence. Sanjay soon discovers that the duke’s pet project is more than aristocratic fancy, though, and the corruption lurking within the palace walls could shatter the very foundation of Sehaann. Sanjay isn’t perfect. He’s a fighter, a strategist, deadly with a blade and master of his magic. He’s a knight, not a saint. Despite his dishonorable past, he’d rather be remembered for his morality and not for his many transgressions. Yet, with his conscience at war with his responsibility, it’s maddeningly difficult to decide where his loyalty should lie. He’ll lose, no matter what he does. Mired in endless uncertainty, only one truth remains—ending up on the wrong side will cost him everything. Only barely considered part of the Farashtaran aristocracy, Josha is used to being overshadowed by the influence and privilege of his peers. But as a knight and elite fighter of Sehaann, he wields his sword in protection of the realm, rejecting the voracious, divisive ambition that he despises. Back home for the first time in years, though, Josha comes face-to-face with the demons of his past. Someone is pulling him away from Sanjay and Josha must choose between his best friend and the fate of his country. Sanjay and Josha have never known life without the other in it. But much has changed since the simplicity of their youth, and the pressure of political conspiracy just might tear them apart forever. If they can thwart the burgeoning treachery without succumbing to it in the process, then perhaps they can begin to right the grievous injustice threatening to topple the Sehaannian throne. And if the rampant betrayal proves too difficult to fight, then they may be forced to abandon honor just to survive. This work is intended for a mature audience and contains mature content. An aristocratic birthright and the luxurious comforts of profound wealth did nothing to comfort Fontaine Pratina following the death of her beloved parents. After two years in the guardianship of her mother's arrogant and selfish sister, Carileena Wetherton, Fontaine's only moments of joy and peace were found in the company of the loyal servants of Pratina Manor. Only in the kitchens and servant's quarters of her grand domicile did Fontaine find friendship, laughter and affection. The life of a wealthy orphan destined to inherit loomed before Fontaine-a dark cloud of shallow, arrogant associations-of aristocracy, void of simple joys-and void of love. Still, it was her lot-and she saw no way of escaping. Yet, one cold winter's night, a battered stranger appeared at the servant's entrance, seeking shelter and help. He gave only his first name, Knight-and suddenly, Fontaine found herself experiencing fleeting moments of joy in life. Knight was handsome, powerful-the very stuff of the legends of days of old. Though a servant's class was his, he was proud, strong and even his name seemed to validate his persona-and he blissfully distracted Fontaine from her dull, hopeless existence. Still, there were devilish secrets-strategies cached by her greedy aunt-and not even the handsome and powerful Knight could save her from them. Or could he? And if he did-would the truth force Fontaine to forfeit her Knight, her heart's desire-the man she loved?
