Die V Lkerwanderung

by Peter Geiss, Die V Lkerwanderung Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. The emotional loaded and easily politicised subject of migration is a good example of challenges and risks of historical analogy. From a historical and didactical perspective, this volume focusses on the late antique migration as a period that on one side was of great importance for the European history. However, on the other side was the reason for new myths and political projections. With regard to recent studies the contributions highlight the tensions between academic knowledge, mythification, instrumentalisation as well as history education inside and outside schools.

Die Macht Des Herrschers

by Mechthild Albert, Die Macht Des Herrschers Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. The contributions to this volume, which are based on numerous case studies from Asia, Egypt, and Europe, aim to overcome the rigorous opposition of personality and transpersonality and thus the postulate of a pre-modern rulership that has been considered to hinge almost exclusively on the ruler’s person by emphasizing the coexistence and concurrency of pre-modern rulership’s personal and transpersonal elements. Moreover, they discuss the ideas, values and norms which determined the respective contemporary models of the ?good' ruler and formed the basis for the concrete exercise of rule. As a third issue, they also focus on the interaction of the ruler with the elites, whereby processes of consensus-building and legitimization of the ruler’s power, as well as the dynamics of their questioning and loss, become tangible.

The Cambridge History Of The Gothic Volume 1 Gothic In The Long Eighteenth Century

by Angela Wright, The Cambridge History Of The Gothic Volume 1 Gothic In The Long Eighteenth Century Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Cambridge History Of The Gothic Volume 1 Gothic In The Long Eighteenth Century books, This first volume of The Cambridge History of the Gothic provides a rigorous account of the Gothic in Western civilisation, from the Goths' sacking of Rome in 410 AD through to its manifestations in British and European culture of the long eighteenth century. Written by international cast of leading scholars, the chapters explore the interdisciplinary nature of the Gothic in the fields of history, literature, architecture and fine art. As much a cultural history of Gothic as an account of the ways in which the Gothic has participated within a number of formative historical events across time, the volume offers fresh perspectives on familiar themes while also drawing new critical attention to a range of hitherto overlooked concerns. From writers such as Horace Walpole and Ann Radcliffe to eighteenth-century politics and theatre, the volume provides a thorough and engaging overview of early Gothic culture in Britain and beyond.

The Visigothic Kingdom In Iberia

by Santiago Castellanos, The Visigothic Kingdom In Iberia Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Visigothic Kingdom In Iberia books, The structures of the late ancient Visigothic kingdom of Iberia were rooted in those of Roman Hispania, Santiago Castellanos argues, but Catholic bishops subsequently produced a narrative of process and power from the episcopal point of view that became the official record and primary documentation for all later historians. The delineation of these two discrete projects—of construction and invention—form the core of The Visigothic Kingdom in Iberia. Castellanos reads documents of the period that are little known to many Anglophone scholars, including records of church councils, sermons, and letters, and utilizes archaeological findings to determine how the political system of elites related to local communities, and how the documentation they created promoted an ideological agenda. Looking particularly at the archaeological record, he finds that rural communities in the region were complex worlds unto themselves, with clear internal social stratification little recognized by the literate elites.

Framing Power In Visigothic Society

by Eleonora Dell'Elicine, Framing Power In Visigothic Society Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Framing Power In Visigothic Society books, This volume examines how power was framed in Visigothic society and how a diverse population with a complex and often conflicting cultural inheritance was thereby held together as a single kingdom. Indeed, through this dynamic process a new, early medieval society emerged. Understanding this transformation is no simple matter, as it involved the deployment of an array of political and cultural resources: the production of knowledge, the appropriation of Patristic literature, controlling and administering rural populations, reconceptualizing the sacred, capital punishment and exile, controlling the manufacture of currency, and defining Visigothic society in relation to other polities such as the neighbouring Byzantine state. In order to achieve an analysis of these different phenomena, this volume brings together researchers from a variety of disciplines. This interdisciplinary approach therefore expands the available sources and reformulates topics of traditional scholarship in order to engage with a renewal of Visigothic Studies and reformulate the paradigm of study itself. As a result, this volume rethinks frameworks of power in the Peninsula along not only historical and archaeological but also anthropological terms, presenting the reader with a new understanding of Iberian society as a whole.

Imitation Innovation Und Imperialisierung

by Sebastian Steinbach, Imitation Innovation Und Imperialisierung Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format.
