Understanding The Paradoxes In China S Energy Efficiency Trends

by Xin Nina Zheng, Understanding The Paradoxes In China S Energy Efficiency Trends Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Understanding The Paradoxes In China S Energy Efficiency Trends books, As a developing country undergoing remarkable economic growth, China’s escalating energy consumption and recent reversal in energy efficiency gains are disconcerting for both its national government and the global community. Without ecological energy policymaking, China’s increased energy demand will inevitably result in further degradation of global natural resources, exacerbated pollution, and increased greenhouse gas emissions. In her study, Nina Xin Zheng therefore examines national and regional energy trends in China, highlighting the potential for improved industrial energy efficiency by addressing existing energy paradoxes. She analyzes China’s national energy trends in the global context to explore the factors behind higher energy consumption and lower industrial energy efficiency gains. In the national context, case studies of two different provinces reveal regional disparities in the energy trends of developing coastal and undeveloped inland provinces. These analyses present new insights into regional energy intensity trends and development experiences that enable a more nuanced assessment of the factors driving energy use and the applicability of foreign energy efficiency policy instruments in China. In accounting for existing challenges to improving energy efficiency, an examination of successful energy policies and reforms abroad offers optimism for China’s potential in achieving truly sustainable development. With growing economic, environmental and security linkages between China’s energy use and the global community, greater understanding of its recent energy trends is crucial for sustainable development. For other provinces in China, recognizing the contributing factors to regional energy disparities and Guangdong’s successes provide opportunities for improving energy efficiency while undergoing development. For the global community, greater awareness of China’s energy challenges presents new opportunities for promoting ecological energy policy in China and other countries undergoing economic development to mitigate rising global energy concerns. Ultimately, China’s successes and challenges in addressing its rising energy consumption and declining industrial energy efficiency embody universal lessons on the role of ecological energy policy in the 21st century.

China S Energy Security

by Prachi Aggarwal, China S Energy Security Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download China S Energy Security books, This book is about two subjects which have been keeping the world on tenterhooks: China and Energy. When China is discussed economy becomes the protagonist and when energy is discussed West Asia and Africa are the only regions thought about. However there is a symbiotic relationship between the world's fastest rising superpower and the world's fastest depleting natural resources, which is less talked about. China has crossed borders to procure fuel for its economy but how does it manage its own internal situation? What is the connection between economy, energy and environment and how does China's political structure manage it? This book is primarily based on resources written in the Chinese language, and it gives an inside view of China, and compares and contrasts both the Chinese and Western perspectives of an issue of extreme gravity. Moreover it talks about the nexus between energy, economy and environment and its internal politics. This book is aimed at giving an overall view of the picture, as it is not just one dimension that dominates or determines China's energy script. With an intense focus on the growing importance of China's energy factor, it traces the changing priorities given to the energy sector as reflected in China's policies. It further studies the impact of economic growth on energy and vice versa, i.e., the relation between the changing economic dynamism and the role of energy in contribution to its growth. It discusses the participation of economics in intensified energy utilisation and the function it can play in achieving energy optimisation. Moreover, environmental determinism and sustainable development is an important issue especially in the context of the degradation of environment and the investment in renewable resources and advanced know-how to achieve a greater degree of sustainable development.

Energy Security Cooperation In Northeast Asia

by Bo Kong, Energy Security Cooperation In Northeast Asia Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Energy Security Cooperation In Northeast Asia books, Drawing on cutting-edge research from leading scholars, this book investigates state preferences for regime creation and assesses state capacity for executing these preferences in Northeast Asia’s energy domain, defined as the geographical area comprising the following countries: Russia, Mongolia, China, Japan, South Korea and North Korea. It examines questions pertaining to how states perceive the need and necessity for establishing a regime when it comes to the issue of energy and how much commitment they make to the effort in Northeast Asia. The book analyses the factors that shape each country’s fundamental energy interests in the region, how these interests impact their attitudes toward engaging the region on energy security and the way they carry out their regional engagement. Based on countries’ interests in promoting institutionalized regional energy cooperation and their capacity for forging that cooperation, the collection assesses each state’s role in contributing to an energy regime in Northeast Asia. It then concludes with a critique on the decade-plus quest for energy security cooperation in Northeast Asia and suggests ways forward for facilitating regional energy security cooperation. This book will be of great interest to scholars and students of environmental policy, energy policy, security studies, Asian studies and international relations.

Guanxi And Local Green Development In China

by Chunhong Sheng, Guanxi And Local Green Development In China Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Guanxi And Local Green Development In China books, This book examines the factors which contribute to local green development in China and employs political ecology to analyze the relationship between power and the environment. Specifically, it looks at which actors control access to resources and are therefore able to promote environmental progress. Following the reform and opening-up of China in the 1970s, entrepreneurs and local officials profited economically and politically and formed close relationships, known as guanxi in China. As a result, they have also been criticized as those responsible for the associated ecological damage. This book does not contest this association, but instead argues that the current literature places too much emphasis on their negative influence and the positive influence of their environmental work has been neglected. Building on three case studies where local green development is being pursued, Shanghai Pudong New Area, Baoding, and Wuning, this book shows how local officials and entrepreneurs can also be the crusaders of a greener environment at the local level in China. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of Chinese studies, with a particular interest in environmental policy and politics, business and society, as well as those interested in sustainable development more broadly.

Energy Security And Sustainable Development

by Hosh Farah, Energy Security And Sustainable Development Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Energy Security And Sustainable Development books, The rise of globalization and the trade in natural resources have progressively included Sub-Sahara African countries. The energy importing countries of the EU and China seek to increase their level of energy security, while the energy exporting countries of Sub-Sahara Africa are seeking to take advantage of the increase in exports in order to increase their economic development. The resource endowments, not only hold the opportunity of accelerating growth and increasing energy security, but if ill managed it can potentially create unbalanced economic growth and consequently socio-economic instability in the energy exporting countries. The purpose of this book is, to map and examine the intertwined policies of the international trade in energy, and more specifically the strategic policy directions, means and methods utilized by the EU and China, in their resource endowments in Sub-Sahara Africa. This helps to understand how the policy directions affect the level of energy security, while at the same time taking into account the consequences and opportunities the resource endowments have on sustainable development in the exporting countries.
