Reflections On Architecture Society And Politics

by Graham Cairns, Reflections On Architecture Society And Politics Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Reflections On Architecture Society And Politics books, Reflections on Architecture, Society and Politics brings together a series of thirteen interview-articles by Graham Cairns in collaboration with some of the most prominent polemic thinkers and critical practitioners from the fields of architecture and the social sciences, including Noam Chomsky, Peggy Deamer, Robert A.M. Stern, Daniel Libeskind and Kenneth Frampton. Each chapter explores the relationship between architecture and socio-political issues through discussion of architectural theories and projects, citing specific issues and themes that have led to, and will shape, the various aspects of the current and future built environment. Ranging from Chomsky’s examination of the US–Mexico border as the architecture of oppression to Robert A.M. Stern’s defence of projects for the Disney corporation and George W. Bush, this book places politics at the center of issues within contemporary architecture.

Constructions

by Michael Hensel, Constructions Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Constructions books, The current trend for constructing experimental structures is now an international phenomenon. It has been taken up worldwide by design professionals, researchers, educators and students alike. There exists, however, distinct and significant tendencies within this development that require further investigation. This issue of AD takes on this task by examining one of the most promising trajectories in this area, the rise of intensely local architectures. In his seminal essay of 1983 Kenneth Frampton re-defined Critical Regionalism by calling for an intensely local approach to architectural design. He avoided a nostalgic or backward-looking attitude to regional traditions by placing an emphasis on contemporary construction and design techniques. Today, Frampton's legacy is regaining relevance for a specific body of work in practice and education focused on the construction of experimental structures. How might, though, this approach be further extended by the adoption of informed locally specific non-standard architectures? Could the most current design, production methods and tools be employed in order to respond to the specifics of local sites and settings? Could this ultimately provide the seeds for a compelling and alternative approach to sustainable design? Featured practices include: SHoP, Studio Mumbai, the early Renzo Piano Workshop, Rintala Eggertson and Tyin Tegnestue. Includes works by pioneering integrated educational and research teams: e[ad] Escuela De Arquitectura y Diseno - Pontificia universidad Catolica de Valparaiso, the Scarcity and Creativity Studio in Oslo, the OCEAN Design Research Association and workshops directed by Shin Egashira. Contributors include Barbarar Ascher, Karl Otto Ellefsen, Bijoy Jain, David Jolly Monge, Lisbet Harboe, Christopher Hight, Joakim Hoen, David Leatherbarrow, Mathilde Marengo, Gregg Pasquarelli, Sami Rintala, Søren S. Sørensen, Defne Sunguroðlu Hensel and Jeffrey Turko.

The Design Build Studio

by Tolya Stonorov, The Design Build Studio Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Design Build Studio books, The Design-Build Studio examines sixteen international community driven design-build case studies through process and product, with preceding chapters on community involvement, digital and handcraft methodologies and a graphic Time Map. Together these projects serve as a field guide to the current trends in academic design-build studios, a window into the different processes and methodologies being taught and realized today. Design-build supports the idea that building, making and designing are intrinsic to each other: knowledge of one strengthens and informs the expression of the other. Hands-on learning through the act of building what you design translates theories and ideas into real world experience. The work chronicled in this book reveals how this type of applied knowledge grounds us in the physicality of the world in which we live.

Versus Heritage For Tomorrow

by Correia, Mariana, Versus Heritage For Tomorrow Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Versus Heritage For Tomorrow books, Vernacular architecture represents a great resource that has considerable potential to define principles for sustainable design and contemporary architecture. This publication is the result of an overall aim to produce a valuable tool for analysis regarding vernacular heritage through different assessments, in order to define principles to consider for sustainable development. This was possible through a comprehensive reflection on the principles established and the strategies to recognise in different world contexts. The present publication was the result of an in-depth approach by 46 authors from 12 countries, concerned with the analysis and critical assessment of vernacular heritage and its sustainable perspective. The book presents 8 chapters addressing operational definitions and synopses advances, regarding the main areas of vernacular heritage contribution to sustainable architecture. It also presents 15 chapters and 53 case studies of vernacular and contemporary approaches in all the 5 continents, regarding urban, architectural, technical and constructive strategies and solutions. VERSUS, HERITAGE FOR TOMORROW: Vernacular Knowledge for Sustainable Architecture is the result of a common effort undertaken by the partners ESG | Escola Superior Gallaecia, Portugal, as Project leader; CRAterre | École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Grenoble, France; DIDA | Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italy; DICAAR | Università degli Studi di Cagliari, Italy; and UPV | Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain. This is the final outcome of VerSus, an European project developed from 2012 to 2014, in the framework of the Culture 2007-2013 programme.

Progetti Per Paesaggi Archeologici Projets Pour Paysages Arch Ologiques Projects For Archeological Landscapes

by Carlo Atzeni, Progetti Per Paesaggi Archeologici Projets Pour Paysages Arch Ologiques Projects For Archeological Landscapes Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format.

by Otl Aicher, Die Welt Als Entwurf Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Wolfgang Jean Stock
