O Great One

by David Novak, O Great One Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download O Great One books, Rather than explain the power of recognition in a typical business book, acclaimed CEO David Novak wrote a fun story that draws on his real-world experiences at Pepsi and Yum! Brands, as well as his personal life. When was the last time you told your colleagues how much you value them? It sounds like a trivial thing in the middle of a busy work day. But as Novak discovered during his years as a hard charging executive, there’s nothing trivial about recognition. It can make a life-or-death difference to any organization, when people see that someone important really notices and appreciates their contributions. The story of O Great One! opens when Jeff Johnson becomes the third-generation CEO of his family business, after the sudden death of his father. The Happy Face Toy Company had many hits in the 1950s and 60s, including Crazy Paste, but its results have been declining for more than a decade. The board has given Jeff just one year to turn the business around, or else they’ll have to sell it to the highest bidder. As Jeff races to save his family’s legacy by getting the company back on track, he meets downtrodden factory workers and an uninspired executive team. Then a birthday gift from his grandson gives Jeff an important insight into why Happy Face lost its culture of innovation and excitement, along with its profitability. He comes up with an idea that seems crazy… But is it crazy enough to work? Whether you’re trying to lead a small department, a Fortune 500 company, a non-profit, or your own family, the story and lessons of O Great One! can help you make everyone around you happier and more effective.

Tradition In The Public Square

by David Novak, Tradition In The Public Square Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Tradition In The Public Square books, David Novak ranks as one of the great American theologians of our time. Tradition in the Public Square: A David Novak Reader offers a representative selection of the philosophical theology and social ethics of David Novak, one of the foremost contemporary Jewish theologians in North America. Novak's work forges an unapologetic link between Judaism and non-Jewish societies in a multicultural environment. This grants Judaism an active role in public discourse, where it can contribute to the most pressing ethical issues of our day - abortion, war, capital punishment, sexual ethics, and health care ethics. In their introduction to the volume, Martin Kavka and Randi Rashkover present a systematic introduction to Novak's thought, focusing on the novelty of his method for overcoming the longstanding dichotomy between reason and tradition.

Jewish Justice

by David Novak, Jewish Justice Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Jewish Justice books, In Jewish Justice David Novak explores the continuing role of Judaism for crafting ethics, politics, and theology. Drawing on sources as diverse as the Bible, the Talmud, and ancient, medieval, and modern philosophy, Novak asserts Judaism's integral place in communal discourse of the public square. According to Novak, biblical revelation has universal implications--that it is ultimately God's law to humanity because humans made in God's image are capable of making intelligent moral choices. The universality of this claim, however, stands in tension with the particularities of Jewish monotheism (one God, one people, one law). Novak's challenge is for Judaism to capitalize on the way God's law transcends particularity without destroying difference. Thus it is as Jews that Jews are called to join communities across the faithful denominations, as well as secular ones, to engage in debates about the common good. Jewish Justice follows a logical progression from grounded ethical quandaries to larger philosophical debates. Novak begins by considering the practical issues of capital punishment, mutilation and torture, corporate crime, the landed status of communities and nations, civil marriage, and religious marriage. He next moves to a consideration of theoretical concerns: God's universal justice, the universal aim of particular Jewish ethics, human rights and the image of God, the relation of post-Enlightenment social contract theory to the recently enfranchised Jewish community, and the voices of Jewish citizens in secular politics and the public sphere. Novak also explores the intersection of universality and particularity by examining the practice of interfaith dialogue among Jews, Christians, and Muslims.

Athens And Jerusalem

by David Novak, Athens And Jerusalem Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Athens And Jerusalem books, What is the relation of philosophy and theology? This question has been a matter of perennial concern in the history of Western thought. Written by one of the premier philosophers in the areas of Jewish ethics and interfaith issues between Judaism and Christianity, Athens and Jerusalem contends that philosophy and theology are not mutually exclusive. Based on the Gifford Lectures David Novak delivered at the University of Aberdeen in 2017, this book explores the commonalities and common concerns that exist between philosophy and theology on metaphysical, epistemological, and ethical questions. Where are they different and where are they the same? And, how can they speak to one another?
