Diplomatic Immunity

by Grant V. McClanahan, Diplomatic Immunity Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Diplomatic Immunity books, In recent years there have been an increasing number of incidents involving diplomats, such as the storming of the US embassy in Tehran and taking of hostages, and the murder of a British policewoman by a member of the Lybian mission in London. Other less serious ones, like the flouting of traffic regulations and the non-prosecution of those stealing, have brought the question of immunity into the public domain. Why, it is asked, should law-abiding citizens put up with lawless behaviour from those who can retreat into the sanctuary of an embassy?

by Elmer Plischke, U S Department Of State Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download U S Department Of State books, This reference history describes and analyzes the State Department and Foreign Service of the United States. It also outlines the history of three major State Department functions, namely, the treatymaking process and record, representation in international conferences, and participation in international organizations and other agencies. The volume covers more than two centuries--from the genesis of American diplomacy to the 1990s. Unlike other works, this volume deals with such matters as departmental organization and management; personnel and staffing; administrative practices, reform, and reorganization; and the Department's operations, functions, principal and other officers, and problems. The volume consists of eight chapters, extensively footnoted, each of which focuses on successive periods grouped in four major historical eras. Tables are designed to serve as further reference for long-range historical analysis and exploration. The book is supplemented with three appendixes and a comprehensive bibliography. A complete and up-to-date major reference, this will be an asset to the reference collections of both academic and public libraries.

David Bruce And Diplomatic Practice

by John W. Young, David Bruce And Diplomatic Practice Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download David Bruce And Diplomatic Practice books, "David Bruce (1898-1977) was a prominent American diplomat, who served in France, Germany, and the UK. His work is examined here to provide an in-depth look at the practice of diplomacy and the role of the ambassador as diplomatic actor. This thorough survey aims to investigate the relevance of the resident embassy to modern diplomacy. To do so, it focuses on the ambassador's daily work as a diplomat, looking at his role in promoting friendly relations, his political reporting, policy advising, as well as the role of his staff and his relations with others in the Foreign Service. It also addresses major issues such as the debate over the 'death of the embassy, ' showing that ambassadors remain vital actors in the relations between major powers. The work integrates theoretical material on diplomatic practice and the case study of a highly regarded diplomat. This unique, readable study will appeal to students in diplomacy, international relations, American politics, as well as to trainee and junior diplomats"--

A Diplomat S Handbook Of International Law And Practice

by Biswanath Sen, A Diplomat S Handbook Of International Law And Practice Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download A Diplomat S Handbook Of International Law And Practice books, It gives me great pleasure to write a foreword to :\1r. Sen's excellent book, and for two reasons in particular. In the first place, in producing it, Mr. Sen has done something vvhich I have long felt needed to be done, and which I at one time had am bitions to do myself. \Vhen, over thirty years ago, and after some years of practice at the Bar, I first entered the legal side of the British Foreign Service, I had not been working for long in the Foreign Office before I conceived the idea of writing - or at any rate compiling - a book to which (in my own mind) I gave the title of "A ~fanual of Foreign Office Law. " This work, had I ever produced it in the form in which I visualised it, could probably not have been published con sistently with the requirements of official discretion. But this did not worry me as I was only contemplating something for private circulation within the Service and in Government circles. :Mr. Sen's aim has been broader and more public-spirited than mine was; but its basis is essentially the same.

The Architecture Of Diplomacy

by Jane C. Loeffler, The Architecture Of Diplomacy Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Architecture Of Diplomacy books, The Architecture of Diplomacy reveals the complex interplay of architecture, politics, and power in the history of America's embassy-building program. Through colorful personalities, bizarre episodes, and high drama this compelling story takes readers from scandalous "inspection" junkets by members of Congress to bugged offices at the Moscow embassy to the daring rescue of American personnel in Somalia by Marines and Navy Seals. Rigorously researched and lucidly written, The Architecture of Diplomacy focuses on the embassy-building program during the Cold War years, when the United States initiated a massive construction campaign that would demonstrate its commitment to its allies and assert its presence as a superpower.
